Decades of Design

Cindy Smith started Circa in 1979 and has since been recognized nationally for timeless interiors that balance the classic and the new. In addition to building a firm that fosters great talent, Cindy co-authored The Welcoming House, and has grown Circa Interiors & Antiques boutique into a leading purveyor of fine antiques, as well as custom contemporary furnishings. As Circa enters its 4th decade, the torch in Charlottte has been passed to Cindy's son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Heather Smith. The Birmingham store is now owned by Cindy's daughter Whitney who also grew up in the business. The businesses operate separately but both share Cindy’s love of the hunt, a passion and enthusiasm for beauty and a desire to share their exploration through special experiences and environments.

Chad's a seasoned entrepreneur with a track record of starting, growing, and selling companies in the home furnishings industry. He grew up in the industry and 3 years ago co-founded SideDoor, an online marketplace for interior designers, that now serves over 8k members and 250 of the industry’s top brands.

Heather has been at Circa for over 20 years and creates interiors that are creative and layered with details with an emphasis on unique forms, earthy colors, and enduring materials. Her work reflects the need for both stylish living and functionality for today's busy families. An antiques lover, Heather combines a traditional aesthetic with collected accessories to keep interiors grounded but young and edgy in spirit. Her travels influence her personal style as well as her design work that encompasses traditional residences, urban apartments, and private retreats.

Together, they're excited about evolving the brand for the digital economy while remaining true to Cindy's original vision of curating the worlds best products and making peoples homes and lives more beautiful.
